Not a bad January. Been in the ridable range every week. Now things slow down a bit with no major swell source in the distant future. Anyhoots there is a chance of ridables in the next few days beginning with a SE/S winds Sat (at least loggable maybe more). Winds switch to Sw pretty fast so that won't last. Sunday winds go North up the Eastern coast and slowly turn NE. We may get a short shot of Northerly to NE windswell action but as we all know how reliable those are. There is a NE fetch setup off the Carolina's but it is a fast mover with low likelihood of swell hitting the Fla coast. Half decent chance of Easterly w/c action the early part of next week with large High setting up over the Delmarva region. Further out next week not much happening. Still more than the dud of a year we had last year.
Enjoy
last year dud? i surfed five chest high + NW swell events at sobe last winter.
anyone know about dominican republic surf? my dad is a part owner of a beach front property on the north coast (close to luperon, DR). I want to go camp out there and explore for surf. please let me know if you guys have any knowledge on the area.
Check out this episode of Island Hoppers about the DR.
The guys featured here know all the spots and have private land on the north coast with 3 good breaks. there is a lot of surf in the DR but the on shore winds are a factor.

Hey CLeon - you surfed 5 NW swells last winter and remember each one of them by size and direction? What do you do keep a surfing diary of every year? if you do, then we need to start a contest for the nerdiest surfer on southbeach every year.. You got my vote!!!
I wouldn't really call it a dud. It kinda picked up toward the second half. Let's hope this year's better anyway.
If you want to know about DR, just speak to EL DOCTOR, Mr. Roby Reed, the ASP world travelet, who is a great guy and good surfer. He will let you know about every spot from the North Coast, but he say's the gem is the South Coast!
What -is Roby working for the ASP?
Compared to other years , last year was nowhere near as consistent as other years . Yes it picked up with some bounce swells at the end of the season but it lacked the inbetweens and had alot of North wind chop (Slop factor) . 5 little to Medium Bounce swells do not make a good year. Not that this year has been incredible but at least we have had a mix of small bounce swells , South swells, East W/c etc. Still missing is the big one.
No he travels like he is! I agree with Pete, I've been in the water a lot more this year! who says Colombia has no waves, check out this website www.iguanamar.com, I'm hoping to go discover the Carribean this summer and winter, ontop of the Colombian beauties! I know ,cause I married one.
Whats up Greg...yea man, hoping for a little love from the ocean this wknd....A little NE slop and getting in the water should make me feel all good...we gotta catch up soon bro..
Hi C. Leon, I'm Dominican and i was there like 3 weeks ago and got the north coast pretty good. Luperon is a rare surf destination, but i bet that there are really good waves there. Anyway you will be like an hour of distance from Puerto Plata, Sosua end Cabarete (many spots to choose in these 3 towns)
As El cache said our best kept secret is the south coast, but the big surf is in the north coast. If you want any info let me know.
Volcom Pipeline event is ON!
http://www.volcompipelinepro.com/live/
Some sizeable NUGz, saw third reef breaking on the horizon
thanks guys. really appreciate the info.
westchesta - i only remember it because 1), as pete pointed out, the rest of the winter season was very quiet and 2) i was still a student and was able to hit it on the weekdays. but i graciously accept your vote as sobe nerd of the year.
Gump- are you going to Nica in Feb? I'm headed to Shay's (Chancletas)
check it out:
http://surfmovies.blogspot.com
whole lot of good movies there..
Remember! Download it, see it, then delete it.
If you liked the movie, BUY IT.
Brasil!
C. Leon-im just messing w you. Actually, I just think it's funny how you guys argue about how many swells we got this or that year, and what sizes they were...blah.blah.blah......this year has definately been more consistant than the last few years " el nino winter so far so good".......you guys all rock w your input on this site to help us westchesta/kendall folks decide whether or not to drive the 25 miles 2 da beach., and guys like Pete who got it down pack giving us cubicle folks hope for the weekend when their is hope.
Honestly, I would prbly win the biggest nerd award in sobe if their was one. I was all riled up from the political BS ystrdy and wanted to get people riled up on dadecosurf.com, and facebook I started a Democrat vs Republican debate as well. you guys all rock....peace
Last winter sucked.
Thanks Westchesta- I hear ya. I used to live in South Kendall and used to drive to the Beach only to get skunked many of times. Its one the main reasons for the passion I have in forecasting and reporting.
Damn, looks like the CHUNKERS will not be here on Monday! Bummer.
hey hunters, keep in mind we have the closest full moon to our planer earth in 2010 tonite! High tide tomorow morning @ 8:30AM. Might be good top to bottom very close to the shore waist plus tomorrow morning at sobe. At lower tide might be worth hitting Deerfield pier for loooonnnng rides breaking at the end of the pier allll the way through. Even though forecast is calling 1 to 2 maybe 3, I think it could be bigger as the winds have been blowing at 12knts plus sustained the whole day today.
Let our collective knowlodge find us ever more waves!
Hey Pete,
I'll be in Nica, Feb 8th through the 13th, although I will be working and probably wont be getting wet. I'm shooting some marketing videos for Philip (manager of Chancletas). He has a new venture called Green Pathways, an eco tour company. I'm hoping to get down to Chancletas and at least get in a session. Maybe I'll see you there.
I agree with Felipe in regards to the winds. I took a look at sobe by 14th st and although not ridable yet, it seemed to be building with the winds and there was some clearly identifyable sfl wind chop. I understand the wind is due to increase during the weekend right?
Well at least it feels good to think positive.
Yo gump, enjoy Nica man, I love that place. I wanna go down this year again.
Saludos de Peru. Here for a few days to tend to family matters - Anniversary of my Dad´s passing AND my grandfather passed away. May we all live to 90 years old to tell our surf stories! As far as waves goes, it´s looking fun with a nice little W/SW swell in Lima. Not really enough for La Herradura, but certainly enough for all the other local breaks. I ain´t gonna compalin about shoulder+ glass lining up for 50 - 100 yards. In "Pete terms", it´s fun+ with occasional fun++ sets. Hope to grab a sesh or two between the family stuff. No camera/No pics this time. Sorry fellas.
7:00 am visual report for Sobe by the ever reliable Rodger Dodger. Ultra high tide making for nearly non existent conditions. Two shortboarders bobbing aimlessly, one longboarder getting short rides. Traffic down to one lane on the causeway due to a marathon. Don't bother now. Maybe a bit mo betta at lower tide.
8:30 am visual from nobe, ankle to knee unridable. Counting on low tide.
Hey mon, just cruising in the BVI's and soon Leeward Islands: sailing, surfing, fishing, diving and explore'n down island all winter, anyone who "really knows me", knows the real deal! If your interested in crew'n on my sloop and experience'n epic uncrowded surf, island cultures and ocean sports contact me, via e-mail bryanblaze@gmail.com and see a few pics on FB. www.facebook.com/bryanblaze By the way El Cache there are several sick points in Parque Tayrona near Santa Marta on Colombia's Caribbean coast, not to mention a cool backpacker scene like the movie "the beach" on that beautiful secluded coast of: mule trails, secluded Bays, reefs and rock points. Also check out www.psdsurftours.com in Nicaragua to catch the sickest left in Nica. Peace pull'n in at CGB!!!!
Hey Haime,
Sorry to hear about your grandfather. You know he'd want you to do what you love, so go play in those shoulder + glassy peelers. And catch a few waves for me, too - O.K.?
~peace!~
No need to go apefeces and try to run out to the beach. Lil' knee-high waves as of 2pm. Fun on the log if you got nothing better to do. Water temp is refreshing, and lots of hoochies starting to filter in for the annual Gold-Diggers convention taking place this coming week.
Should be the same kinda fun- as the tide starts to fill back in. Wind is light for you dang SUP'ers, but it will be clockin' around mighty quick to the NE.
Saw GablesLos out there with is reconstructed terminator knee doing a few snaps on a fishy. Good on ya! Stay healthy...
You got it, Slider, and thanks.
Just don't tell the doctor......
GLos
Bryan, have you surfed east of Parque Tayrona?, that's where I would like to check out. More power to you!
In case any of you are wondering, nobe is flat. Wind full north almost. Shame.
Short range models are all over the place and confusing. Anything is posssible the early part of the week. Later in the week we get a short shot of refractory and into the weekend a real nice NE fetch develops off the eastern seaboard. Hope that one pans out.
South visual, getting cold and stormy on beach. No surf
Bryan Blaze is living the life!
Winds kicked up in the late afternoon here in Nobe. Some small chop starting to show, really small though.
Bummer there are no waves in MIA. Peru is on the small side right now, but very surfable no less. Surfed Punta Rocas today in the shoulder to head range and a light crowd. I expect to grab an a.m. sesh tomorrow and then fly back to reality in the afternoon.
nobe: NE wind swell rolling in.. has some size. slow moving crumblers. hope it holds. pray for surf.
nikki beach cam back up.
any visuals from south? Hoping for ridables once the tide goes out a bit.
bryanblaze: do u have any more info on COlombia surf? I travel down there for work. maybe i could squeeze in some surf time. let me know, thanks. From just a glance at the map, it looks like the SW swells that hit CR don't make it into the pacific coast of Colombia.
Go to www.iguanamar.com for surf on Colombia, I will be going, starting this summer and winter. I
There are waves out there. Me and Greg surfed a couple spots in Nobe from 12 -2p The rain was pelting us though, but in between storms it was quite nice out. I'd call it thigh to waist.
I heard it got up to waist + sneaker swell with light offshores a few hours ago. Down to thigh high now and bumpy. Not worth the effort
Any idea if there will be anything tomorrow???
I am hoping to get a session in before work.
Nice post Gump, just the info you need when you are deciding wether to bolt to the ocean at 4 or not. It was only knee high from 4:30-6 but the temp was nice and it looked like the 10-20 people scattered between the jetty and 2nd were having fun.
Conditions bear watching. Right now winds are onshore but should be SW sometime tomorrow.
NCPB is ur starting point today!
North Carolina -Palm beach ? North central Palm beach? Not currently Palm beach ?
Any better at south??
just thought i came over and say the obvious. NO WAVES EVER.
kwak you can always call the surf report in south beach. apparently is knee high or less, BUUUUUT IT IS CLEAN! im stoked now... ugh... when is there gunna be sizable surf god?
yeah i know.. just hoping someone could tell me was a litle better.. 2 weeks and nothing!?
nobe: just about flat
yes it is. and surfline says its was going to be cleaner than yesterday which was wrong yesterday was good but the wind and rain made me stay inside. I checked nobe yesterday it was semi clean waist plus. wish i went out yesterday. woke up and saw the sun but no waves
Yesterday at about mid-day on wasn't all bad. Once tide started to drop it got ok.
GLos
Keeping a heads up for a sizeable NE swell late weekend upcoast. Wavewatch 3 has been an accurate resource this year. Quit checking surfline for local reports. They're garbage. Stick to watching their videos some douche passerby took as he saw Kelly getting barreled at a spot directly off the PCH noone ever noticed.
Mon/tues for the swell .
friday morning?
Sat midnight to 2 am
I Put up some new Video's/Photo Shows.
Some Of the Stuff is Older but they were great Swells.

Kite surfer killed in stuart after bad shark attack, this time of year there are big fish. Be careful north of jupiter inlet.
The worst thing about being a kite surfer is having to tell your parents that you're gay.
Scored some knee high waves at hh between 3:30 and dusk..

Pray 4 Surf!
That life guard should be given an award for putting his own life on the line.
OLD SCHOOL
Hey homey the surfer
That last post was very uncool. grow up and show some respect. There is more than one way to enjoy the water.
YEAH!,
Homey needs some new material, that SH*T was not funny at all!
How insane would it have been to be flying over the massive schools of unfriendlies under you, until you fell I guess,
but have seen some dinosaurs at Haulover inlet while launching my waverunner, Huge Hammerheads all over that place and praying it didn't stall
Any ridables at south today? ever?
But in NPB, and Martin. County, there are big bulls, Tigers and occasional Great Whites. Diffrent animal up there.
Localism by those who wear gray suits reminds us that, where we play, we are not the top of the food chain.
I raise my glass to toast he who begins the last great adventure, I pay homage to the gods Poseidon and Neptune by pouring a share in the ocean and I pray for the friends and family who will mourn his passing.
no surf at all... people getting angry here..
Whats is the best site to check the forecast for south??
Ive seen surfline but it was wrong several times..
oldschool, davice- you guys kiteboard? how'd your parents take it?
I surfed, kind of, this morning in Nobe on the long board, it was knee high. Caught 4 waves and got out. I'd say it's flat now with the high tide.
lol, funny. Bad taste given the horrible death, otherwise would be hillarious if better timed. Surprised no one is crying about the profile pic also, that's next.
homey - Sorry, dude, but you're way out of line. The guy was brutally attacked by a group of sharks and you think that's funny? That's something to joke about??? What if it had happened to you? How funny would it be, then? Everyone who plays in the ocean and shares the joy is connected - so show some respect and shut up.
~peace!~
yep homey , i think you are the queer one.
It is around knee high right now. There are a ton of man o war in and out of the water this am. All sizes. Keep a heads up if you are desperate and go in the water.
This is taken from an MSN report.
Very sad story..
Gilmore said of the four species known to attack humans in the area, great hammerheads, bulls and tigers all prefer warm water and leave or go deep in winter. "The only other species that gathers in abundance out there in the winter are the juvenile great white sharks," Gilmore told The Palm Peach Post
I spoke to a fishing buddy in PBC and he said there have been more white sharks showing up in the area. Guy's hooking them when swordfishing. Great...
Ever see that Great White they have displayed at Miami sea Aquarium that was caught in Biscayne Bay, I believe it was, some time ago too, yeah, they're out there.
And Horney the CLOWN!, No kiteboardin' here, I just think it's funny you're commenting on someone being a homo and you got all this white stuff around your mouth!
How'd your parents take that?
on to a better topic;
http://www.surfingmagazine.com/surfing-photo-video/surfing-videos/flash/reef-miss-argentina-episode-1/
How trashed is that judge! and HOW DID HE GET THAT JOB?
Slider- What if it was me? A clown half eaten by a bunch of sharks. Yes the pictures would be hilarious!. peace to you too.
Imperial- queer as in odd or strange? or queer as in Imperial was the center attraction in a circle jerk.
Davice- you got me. the white stuff was from your boyfriend.
hahahaha, this site is a nice diversion from the real world. I hope the surf shows up tomorrow-tuesday summer flatness is getting closer by the day. Then the real nasty bickering on this message board begins. Nothing but cranky non surfing surfers!
Ahahaaa, that bastard,
I knew something "FUNNY" was going on
A hundred sharks sighted just offshore at Reef Road. That is way to close for comfort.
http://www.wptv.com/content/news/centralpbc/palmbeach/story/kiteb...
On a more serious note:
2ndlight.com has a huge thread about the incident. juvenile great white sharks the possible culprits?
That was my favorite show, and homey definitely has the punch lines.
Unbelievable , who would of thought Great white in Fla.
On a more surf related moment, winds have picked up out of the East arouind 20 knts. Shopuld be SE then S tomorrow and hold. Ridable all day. Sat Morning iffy as the winds go SW.
Surfrider dune restoration event on Sat. Come on out and join
SE winds cranking 25 knots. Low tide right now. This used to be perfect setup for Haulover Northside but since they have dumped so much sand you can see over thetop of the rocks, not so much. The sandbar there is a trench now
Visual of South By Jaydog. Waist high and ridable, some fun + sets , looks FF (fairly fun) . I'm hitting it later.
why do the sharks go off the coast of palm beach and not miami? They are close to each other
Pete - so.... is it fun, fun+, or fun- :-)
Anyhoo, to all giving Homey a tough time, he's a good clown and I don't interpret his comments as being disrepectful to the incident that occured. It's a nightmare, and it's horrible what happened and I don't think he's making light of the situation. He's kidding around regarding the sport kiteboarding and quite frankly, had me laughing pretty hard - AND I KITEBOARD!!!, and I SURF!!!!
A wise man once told me that laughter is an excellent remedy for tough situations.
And no, I'm not gay, Homie. Just ask my wife....
Ok it's gone
G91291 you're giving away a secret - good job
Shrimp breath, that place is working again under the same conditions, it's just shifted a little.
For the rest of you, $680.00 buys you,
http://www.sharkshield.com/Content/Products/Product/?url=Content/...
G91291, that was the best kept secret in town you just gave up. LOL
dunno about the best kept but still making it too easy - it was no the DL when the link changes a year ago put it this way whoever didnt know....
just delete his post.
Haulovers bottom is not the same as it was even 10 years ago. The sandbars that used to be there were large and on the edge of the channel. Now they are garbage.
G91291, duuuuuuude! What the?...
Stop crying about ur secret cam. who cares.... you dont surf alone anyways.
true - i dont even know how to surf
I prefer the cheaper homemade brew shark repellent. Just spray it on and watch them go away.
the wind is blowing to hard = no waves....
Good comment Jaime (Mr B) I agree with what you said. Homeys comment had bad timing . But enough of that lets talk about surf.
G91291 - Seriously, what the f*ck??? Delete that! (Log in, go to your post, click "edit" and use your delete button to do the rest!) You're not making any friends here by leaving it up!
See everybody in the water later...
~peace!~
Thanks, G91291. Much appreciated.
~peace!~
What was that all about?
damn, i missed the secret spot/secret cam post. someone email it to me, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease afp@pazlawfirm.com
south is knee-waist inconsistent short period swell, high tide was kinda hurting it when I got out an hr ago
secret spot web cam...lol.. its south beach!
CR Surf Travel Co. "The best place to check the surf in Costa Rica" www.crsurf.com info@crsurf.com
homophobia......hyperventilating about "secret cam"......sad scene. News flash: It is not the wave, it is how you share it. I had more fun on Monday ,ankle high on sets, surfing with some friends than I have had in any advertised Miami "swell". I cannot believe all of this weak-sauce possessive behavior.
The more you know, the less you need...
homophobia???? I aint scared a no homos!
CORRECTION: I meant, anti-homophylia
The more you know, the less you need...
Can anyone TIVO ESPN SportsCenter at 6 PM ??
Check out Surfrider's Hands Across the Sand protest banner against oil drilling.
Surfrider member Greg Gordon has our big banner down on SoBe and is gonna make some noise and try to get shot by the TV cameras.
Can someone help us out and TIVO it?
Gracias,

Surfrider Foundation
Somewhere way up on this thread, the subject of fish kill from the freeze came up. I friend sent me this picture from Flamingo. Pretty sad.
Mr. B, I'd tell them to use giant water heaters next time to keep the water warm... A preventable death by far with todays technology? Surf was fun today BTW...
Damn, pretty active afternoon up in here i see. At the risk of becoming a recipient of gratuitous hostility, I dare change the subject; anyone think there'll be some surf tomorrow? Winds still blowin south.
are you really sure this is about surf??
Im just saying.. hope there is something tomorrow..
Kwak, you spelled your name wrong. Its with two o's, not a "wa". In other news... paddled out at sobe from about 4 till dark. Solid thigh to waist peelers, clean and a lot of fun, and not a fullout crowd. hopefully we'll get a little something monday/tuesday
