Surfs up & Good News from Costa Rica
Forecast from Tj
Posted July 19th, 2008 11:46 AMYo! Yo! Hey folks rideable surf up the coast - reports in on the previous thread. Seems Dawn Patrol on sunday from North PB on up will give you a score.
Also, great news out of Costa Rica today in the Herald "Tribunal is on coastal crusade in Costa Rica". Great article, check it out. Right now several members from the Broward Surfrider Chapter are meeting with the Tamarindo Costa Rica Chapter to learn about the problems they're facing there. Very cool that the Broward crew pulled together about 30 folks for a group CR trip and as part of the fun decided to make the effort to meet with Surfrider folks there fighting for sanity in coastal development and higher sewage treatment standards to save the beautiful rivers, streams and coastal waters. Meanwhile right off our coast here in SFL...sad....sad...sad...

PLEASE LISTEN TO WLRN RADIO (91.3) ON WEDNESDAY JULY 23RD AT 1PM.
I'LL BE A GUEST ON 'TOPICAL CURRENTS' ALONG WITH FORMER WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF LEON PANETTA AND THE NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNCIL'S OCEANS INITIATIVE DIRECTOR, SARAH CHASIS. WE'LL BE DISCUSSING THE NEED FOR A NATIONAL OCEAN POLICY HERE IN THE U.S. - THANKS!

Surfed Ft. Pierce from 6 till 830 waist to chest with occ. shoulder, south wind at 5-10, fun a littel mushy but lefts and rights.
Looks like all the maps and reports show that we can't expect much from TS Cristobal. So that leaves us with no hope of new swell for a while. There is a low just southeast of Bermuda that has very little chance of something but IF it did develop it could of been something. So if you think you can score surf today go for it. I can't locate anything significant today on the cams or reports so hopefully the beach is just fooling those that don't venture out. I'd venture but my little guy is sick today so I gotta hang around the house and help out the wife. If I find out there are good waves somewhere I will use my get out of house pass . So hopefully someone report of a true visual.
DP this morning did not work out. Checked Juno at sunrise and was only knee high. Checked Hobe sound and Jensen later but also small and breaking close to shore. Bummer but still worth the effort.
IF ANY OF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN WHAT IS GOING ON AT PADANG YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT. There is a freaking fishing vessel on the reef at Padang-Bali's pipe. Very strange story- boat was found on the reef with nobody on board last week. After a week of flatness in July-which is UNHEARD of for the bukit this time of year there were several failed attempts to get the 115 foot boat off the reef and a new swell has smashed the hull open. It will be a nightmare to clean up- not to mention the damage on the reef and potential impact on the wave.
I am sure baliwaves.com will have something on it for a while.
Later
took a paddle board out to the gables waterway channel and waited for large boats to pass. they would slow down and i would ask them to crank it and when they did i was ready and waiting. caught some nice little waves. crazy huh. couldnt believe it myself.
xavi if you check the previous post i put a link to some info on the Padang

well Cristobal my good friend is finally blowing up some convection after a nice hiatus, looks like she is getting pushed east a bit , should she slow down a little and take a track a little further south and east then forecast we could get something but i will not let myself get my hopes up that much just yet.

Sorry for asking but what is that in the photo?
Looks like a dead brain coral covered in algae. I'm going to try and get as many pics of the reefs in the keys during the mini season. I'm interested to see their conditions this year as i haven't been able to do as much diving as i usually do.

Well, it looks like Bertha is not only history, but certainly made history as well. It was the longest or second longest lived tropical system as well as the earliest Cape Verde storm to form in history. She started July 3 and scrammed away July 21. To top it off, she gave Central FL a few weeks of steady surf and even made a few for the northern So. Fl. region. Ain't too shabby for July.
Can someone repost or start a new thread regarding the public hearing for the skatepark in Miami Beach tomorrow? Thanks.

If my fish tank looked that bad, you can write me a citation for cruelty to fish!
